What to Expect on a 7-Day Rwenzori Central Circuit Trek
Planning a trek in the Rwenzori Mountains can feel exciting and a little intimidating, especially if it’s your first high-altitude hike. The good news is that the 7-day Central Circuit route is one of the best ways to experience the park safely and fully.
The trek begins at Nyakalengija near Kasese and gradually climbs through forests, rivers, and steep mountain trails. Along the way, you stay in mountain huts such as Nyabitaba, John Matte, Bujuku, Elena, and Kitandara.
Each day brings something new, from crossing the famous Bigo Bog boardwalk to seeing the towering peaks of Mount Stanley. By Day 5, trekkers attempt the summit of Margherita Peak, using ropes and crampons for the icy sections.
This trek is physically demanding, but it is also deeply rewarding. With the right preparation, good guides, and a steady pace, it becomes one of the most memorable experiences you can have in Uganda.
